Confirmation at Nativity Church
Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation
Confirmation is a sacramental rite in which candidates make a mature commitment to Christ, and they receive strength from the Holy Spirit through the laying-on of hands by a bishop. At Nativity, youth prepare for Confirmation through our Journey to Adulthood and Rite 13 programs, exploring faith, discipleship, and their role in the church.
Adults who were baptized without a bishop’s laying-on of hands may also seek Confirmation as a public reaffirmation of their faith. This is an important step for those who wish to deepen their commitment to Christ and the Episcopal Church.

For adults already confirmed in another Trinitarian denomination, the Episcopal Church offers Reception — a way to be formally welcomed into the tradition by the bishop. Those experiencing a renewal of faith, or returning to active church life, may also choose Reaffirmation of their baptismal vows.
All three — Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation—are rooted in the baptismal covenant and celebrated when the bishop visits. Preparation involves prayer, study, and discernment of how to live out one's faith more fully in Christian community.
